Text: 1st Corinthians 1:18-25
In the Bible, the Greek tradition stated that a powerful person shouldn’t be crucified on the cross. Therefore, it made no sense that Jesus, who was coming to save humans, should be hung on a cross.
Traditionally, the Jews believe that cursed is a man that hangs on the tree so it made no sense that Jesus was hung on the cross.
Foolishness is to be without understanding, good sense or judgement. We cannot associate foolishness with God.
It’s difficult to understand this ideology but looking at scriptures, most of the Bible verses buttresses this fact. Foolishness of God simply means when the ways of God or his commandments makes no sense to humans. As humans we always want to be logical when following God.
Lessons to learn from salvation story
1. God becoming man: It made no sense because it was humans that needed help.
2. Jesus being born in a manger: Despite how powerful Jesus was, he was born in a manger. You’d assume that he would be born in a palace amongst wise men.
3. God used a carpenter to train a messiah: God wanted to show that he can make something beautiful out of raw material.
4. God used human betrayal to fulfill his purpose for coming to Earth.
The wisdom of God in practicality can never align with the wisdom of men, that is why to humans, his wisdom looks like foolishness. (1st Corinthians 1 :26-27)
What makes sense to God isn’t always what makes sense to man and he does this, so that no man can take his glory.
God chooses foolish things and not sophisticated things to perform wonders. He doesn’t need the multitude, to save you (Judges 7:2-6).
In Conclusion, there are times in your life when God’s instructions makes no sense but always remember that the foolishness of God is wiser than the wisdom of men and he will always show up for you. (Romans 8:28)
