Text : John 1:19, Acts. 3:6
Being authentic is knowing who you are.
Authenticity in your gifts therefore implies knowing your place, your call, and your unique giftings.
For example, John the Baptist knew who he was, and he confirmed that he was a voice crying in the wilderness.
Characteristics of Authenticity.
- Authenticity is knowing who you are.
- Authenticity is knowing who you are not.
- Authenticity is knowing what you lack / shortcomings (either so that you can eventually get it, or knowing how to do without them).
- Authenticity is knowing what you have.
Signs to decipher the authenticity of your gift.
- Do I have this gift because I want to impress people? Or can I use my gifting even without the crowd?
- Does it produce results consistently?
- Does it gradually become evident to all?
How to take care of your giftings/calling?
1 Timothy 4:12-16
- Respect yourself
- Don’t neglect your giftings/calling, and treasure opportunities to utilize them
- Give yourself wholly to your giftings/calling
- Take heed to yourself and preserve the reputation of your calling/gifting through discretion and moderation.
In conclusion, a gift can either be authentic or an influence of environment or events. Knowing the authenticity of your gifting, its limitations and strengths, will enable the maximization of your potentials.
