Text: Exodus 33:18
Prayers are of different kinds. There are single prayer points whose potency can substitute for 300 other prayer points. One of such prayers is what we’ll be discussing today.
At a point in the journey of the children of Israel, Moses cried out to God, saying, “Oh God, show me your glory!” This is one prayer that can replace hundreds of other prayer points.
One of the most magnificent things that can happen to a man is for God to expose him to His glory. When a man sees the glory of God, everything about him changes.
So, how do we define the glory of God?
“But I saw no temple in it, for the Lord God Almighty and the Lamb are its temple. The city had no need of the sun or of the moon to shine in it, for the glory of God illuminated it. The Lamb is its light. And the nations of those who are saved shall walk in its light, and the kings of the earth shall bring their glory and honour into it.” Revelation 21:22–24 NKJV
The passage above shows us a glimpse of what the glory of God is capable of doing in a place or in the life of a man. When the glory of God is somewhere, a person can’t struggle to see or be seen. Why? The glory of God is illumination. The word “glory” comes from the Hebrew word “kābôd,” which means something that is heavy, has so much weight, and has immense value attached to it.
Going back to our text, when Moses prayed that prayer in Exodus 33:18, as God would answer the prayer in verses 19–22, He said, “I will make all My goodness pass before you, and I will proclaim the name of the Lord before you… So it shall be, while My glory passes by, that I will put you in the cleft of the rock and will cover you with My hand while I pass by.”
This is to let you know that the glory of God is everything God is and gives. Mercy, favour, goodness, abundance, good health, etc., are all found in His glory. So, when you pray and say, “Oh God, show me your glory,” you are actually saying, “Oh God, appear in my life [or situation].”
I pray that God will release His glory upon your life in Jesus’ name.
The glory of God is so heavy and has such a radical impact that all you need is a glimpse of it. For God to have told Moses that if He shows him His glory, He will die, that is to let you know how heavy it is. That glimpse of God’s glory that you need to change your story, you shall encounter in the name of Jesus.
At a time in the Bible, when Solomon prayed for the newly finished temple, the Bible told us that the glory of God filled the temple so much that the priest could not enter the Lord’s house. 2Chronicles 7:1-2. The normal procession of activities for the priests was completely altered because God’s glory came down. This is what happens when the glory of God comes upon your life—protocols are broken.
